Skip-the-line available Czocha Castle and the College of Wizardry
Why Czocha is called Poland's wizarding castle — the College of Wizardry LARP, the film roles, and what you'll recognise on the guided tour.
Czocha is the castle most people mean when they talk about a real-life Hogwarts in Poland. Its storybook towers, its film history and, above all, the College of Wizardry live-action role-play have given it a reputation as a school of wizardry brought to life. This guide explains where that reputation comes from and what you'll recognise on the standard guided tour.
What is the College of Wizardry?
Since 2014, Czocha has hosted the College of Wizardry, a live-action role-play (LARP) event in which participants spend several days living at the castle as students of a fictional school of magic — attending classes, belonging to houses, and staying in character throughout. Set in Czocha's turreted halls and courtyards, it is the main reason the castle is popularly called 'the Polish Hogwarts'.
The College of Wizardry is organised separately from the castle's day-to-day visits and runs on its own scheduled dates. Our tickets are for the standard guided day tour of the halls, not for the LARP event — but that tour lets you walk the same rooms and courtyards that give the event its atmosphere.
What films and shows were made at Czocha?
Czocha has a rich screen history that adds to its magical reputation. It appears in The Hexer (Wiedźmin), both the 2001 film and the television series, and in the 1963 Polish comedy Where Is the General? (Gdzie jest generał?).
It also features in the series Spellbinder and in The Secret of the Cipher Fortress. Walking the guided tour, you'll recognise towers, halls and courtyards that have stood in for fortresses and strongholds on screen.
What will you recognise on the guided tour?
The 70-minute guided tour takes in the Knight's Hall, Marble Hall, Library Hall, Portrait Hall and the Prince's Chamber, with historic wall paintings and the castle's famous secret passages and hidden rooms — exactly the kind of detail that makes Czocha feel like a storybook school of wizardry.
The tour ends with a climb to the lookout tower and its view over the Kwisa valley. Between the fairytale architecture, the legends the guide shares, and the sense of a castle full of hidden corners, it is easy to see why Czocha has become a pilgrimage for fans of wizarding stories.
Frequently asked
Is Czocha the 'Polish Hogwarts'?
It's the castle most people mean by that phrase, thanks to the College of Wizardry LARP held there since 2014 and its fairytale, film-friendly architecture. The wizardry event is separate from the standard guided day tour.
Can I book the College of Wizardry through you?
No — the College of Wizardry is run by separate organisers on its own dates. Our tickets are for the standard 70-minute guided tour of the castle halls.
